June 2022 letter

June 6, 2022

Dear Harrison High School Families:

It is hard to believe  the 2021-2022 school year is coming to an end,  and the last day of regularly scheduled classes is Tuesday, June 14th.   This letter outlines important end-of-year information, including  important information on school exams and Regents exams. Please read the entire letter carefully.

Students and staff have been diligently preparing for the upcoming assessments. As your child prepares for exams, please encourage them to take advantage of the supports available at the high school.  Your child’s classroom teacher offers regular extra help hours before and/or after school.

It is imperative that your child attend all of the tests at the scheduled time.  Please contact the High School Guidance Office at 914-630-3101 if you have a concern or question about the time a test is scheduled.  All Regents exam times are set by New York State and may NOT be rescheduled for another date.

As a reminder, students are not permitted to have cell phones with them during testing periods.  If your child brings his/her cell phone to school on the day of an exam, it must be turned off and will be collected by the proctor until the end of the testing period.  By New York State Department of Education testing regulations, any student who is found to be in possession of a phone during an exam will have their exam invalidated.

PLEASE NOTE: Attendance in school is expected for all exams from June 15th - June 22nd. Refer to the following times students should be on campus:

  • Scheduled exam times.

    • You and your child will receive an email later this week with specific information on Regents Exams your child is scheduled to take in addition to the location at HHS where the exams will be administered.   Exam and Bus Schedule

    • School exams in ELA 10, IB World Language SL/HL Year 1 Courses, and IB Literature HL Year 1 also will be administered during the exam days  to students enrolled in these courses.  Information about the locations for these exams will be provided directly to your child by their classroom teachers.

  • Review sessions

    • Information about all review sessions will be shared directly with your child by their classroom teachers.

  • Submission of work or items/materials belonging to the school:

    • Students should submit all books and materials as soon as they are no longer needed. Return library books to the library, and classroom books and texts to their respective teachers.  Students who do not return books will be charged accordingly.

  • Scheduled appointments with teachers:

    • Individual meetings with teachers must be scheduled in advance. Teachers have proctoring and scoring responsibilities, so they are not available without advance arrangements.

Building/Busing Information:

  • Breakfast and lunch will be available to students in the Student Union before and after exams until 12:00 p.m.  Meals remain free of charge to students through the end of the school year.

  • Morning buses to school will be available for students at regular times and bus stops.   See page 2 of the exam schedule for bus times and satellite stops to transport students to school for afternoon exams and review sessions and to transport students home following exams and review sessions.

  • School lockers must be emptied of all belongings no later than your child’s last exam.  Lockers are cleaned over the summer and anything left in lockers will be disposed of. Athletic lockers are cleaned at the conclusion of each season and should have already been emptied by your son/daughter.

  • Students  who are planning to return to HHS next year may keep any signed-out school devices or calculators for the summer as they may need these items when participating in summer learning and enrichment opportunities or, for our rising seniors, to work on college applications and essays.
Graduating Seniors should return these items no later than the last day of instruction.

  • Parents of Seniors received separate emails  with detailed information regarding the Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2022.

Important Dates:

  • Tuesday, June 14th - LAST DAY OF CLASSES

  • Wednesday June 15th - Thursday, June 22nd - Regents & Final Exams

  • Monday, June 20th - Juneteenth - School is closed
